Bringing Home the Burberry

Photo of Christopher Bailey

Christopher Bailey, Chief Creative Officer at global fashion brand Burberry, lent his support to the Elsie Whiteley Innovation Centre this week with a donation of a portrait to the Centre’s Atrium gallery. The Elsie Whiteley Innovation Centre showcases local industry leaders in a series of stylish black and white portraits in their Artium, and the portraits are accompanied by quotes about what innovation means to each individual.

Bailey, originally from Halifax, said: “"Innovation means something to everyone, for me it is the DNA and the foundation of this global British icon that is Burberry - it is the unique ability to constantly move forward, to create, to dream, to explore and to inspire."

Bailey began his career in 1994 with Donna Karen, after graduating from the Royal College of Art with a masters degree. In 1996 he went on to work in Milan as Senior Designer for Womenswear at Gucci until joining Burberry in 2001. Bailey has twice won the coveted title of Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2005 and 2009, as well as many other accolades including Menswear Designer of the Year in 2007 and 2008 and an MBE in the Queen’s 2009 Birthday Honours List.
